Here are five lovely ladies we bet you didn’t know were Durbanites!
Lara Logan is a Durban-born television and radio journalist, and war correspondent who’s been an inspiration for women in journalism. We don’t see much of her in South Africa, having started her career as a reporter for Durban’s very own Sunday Tribune and Daily News, she quickly moved on to Reuters Television in Africa, then to freelance journalism, covering assignments for Fox/Sky, ITN, CBS News, ABC News and CNN, among others.
She travelled to Afghanistan, and reported from the battlefields, often with the American Armed Forces. In 2011 she was the victim of a brutal attack and sexual assault in Egypt while covering the celebrations over President Mubarak’s resignation. She kept on going, and we are super proud of this firecracker!

Another Durban-born now Canadian beauty. This Canadian actress may not be well recognized, but if you’re a sci-fi fan at all you’ll immediately know who we’re talking about. Best known for her role as Petty Officer Dualle (Dee) on the popular Sci-Fi Channel Series Battlestar Galactica,
She’s also been the voice of Grace in Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale and Catherine in Barbie: A Christmas Carol. With dozens of roles under her belt (all be they small)She’s someone we can really be proud of!
Born Liezel Horn in Durban, Liezel is a professional tennis player from the United States, having been a naturalized American citizen since July 2007. Huber has won four Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles with partner Cara Black, one with Lisa Raymond, and two mixed doubles titles with Bob Bryan.
On 12 November 2007, she became the co-World No. 1 in doubles with Cara Black. On 19 April 2010, Huber became the sole No. 1 for the first time in her career. Pretty cool… we think…
Born Musetta van der Merwe in Durban, this lovely lady is best known for her roles in sci-fi and fantasy films, and has quite a long list of roles. She has played alongside Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Lopez in The Cell, and as Robert Duvall’s wife in the comedy Kicking & Screaming.
Some of her other TV roles include appearances in Stargate Sg-1, Star Trek Voyager, Babylon 5, Xena: Warrior Princess, Frasier, NCIS and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Probably better known for her role in Veet television commercials and campaigns, this gorgeous Durbanite has some pretty impressive stuff on her resume.
She first drew major attention as a swimsuit/lingerie model in popular Men’s Interest Magazines she quickly became a household name here in SA. Having appeared in the European TV ad for Fa shower gel – skydiving topless – she quickly rocketed to fame and popularity, and graced the covers of many magazines, her acting career kicked off with several small appearances, among them a role as one of Jared Leto’s girlfriends in the 2005 film Lord of War.
She can be seen in both of the Spud Movies, as well as the Leon Schuster film Mad Buddies. We don’t think this gorgeous girl is stopping anytime soon!
