The second edition of the festive bay series takes place as part of the Point Yacht Club’s 125 birthday celebrations on Saturday 25 March, this time with the Beer and Bratwurst on the Bay.
Following the hugely successful Beer and Bunny on the Bay in January, the yacht club decided to organise a German themed afternoon inspired by Chef Markus Banziger, chef-extraordinaire from the Point Yacht Club’s restaurant, The Anchorage.
On the menu, will be a mouth-watering variety of German and Swiss-German cuisine, traditional favourites such as Cervelat, Bockwurst, Eisbein, Fleischkäse and of course, Bratwurst will be dished up with options of Swiss style Rösti Potato or, the famous Sauerkraut. An interesting item on the menu is an Oktoberfest favourite, the beer pretzel.
Making a welcome return, local brewer The Standeaven from Hillcrest will be offering their on-tap craft beers and a highlight, their delicious on-tap craft gin. Joining them will be Woodstock’s quirky brewing company, Drifter. Drifter has a couple of nautical apt brews that compliments the setting, options such as the Scallywag IPA and the Stranded Coconut.
Entertainment organised for the day include Durban’s one and only Afrikaans band, Systraat Serenade who have been challenged to delve into a German tune or two. French Congolese performer Rene Tshiakanyi. The singer, songwriter performs in a medley of languages, including his mother-tongue French with English, Afrikaans and Portuguese.
Commodore for the Point Yacht Club, Craig Millar said, “We were overwhelmed with the massive response from the Beer and Bunny event, it was an obvious decision to create this event to welcome everyone back for some more festivities on our picturesque lawns overlooking the bay. Utilising Chef Markus’ Swiss roots and it being six months until Oktoberfest we opted for the German theme. This is a historic birthday year for us, and we would love to encourage people down to our club and hopefully welcome them to the wonderful world of watersports.”
Tickets can be purchased online through Quiket. Tickets cost R30 online and includes your first beverage of beer or cider. Limited tickets will be available at the door and will cost R40. Meals are sold separately, and if German meaty menu options are not your thing, The Anchorage has a wide variety of other options to tempt your tastebuds.
Parking is available at the Point Yacht Club’s parking and will cost R20 for the day. The festivities kick off at 2.30pm and continue past sunset.
