On Saturday the 31st of May the Hooters Athletics Club will be kicking off its first weekly run on the Umhlanga promenade. Zola Budd, veteran runner and face of the Hooters Athletics Club will be joining members of the public for the club’s first ever run before taking part in the arduous Comrades Marathon on Sunday. Members of the public are encouraged to gather in the Hooters on the Rocks parking lot at 7:45 to depart at 08:00 am for a 5km run or walk.
The Hooters Athletics Club was first formed in March 2014 in an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst Hooters guests and staff members. According to Hooters South Africa’s Brett Simmons, all members of the public are welcome. “We really want to get as many people taking part in this weekly run as possible. It’s not a race. We want to see mothers with prams, little children, beginner runners as well as running enthusiasts come together and enjoy some exercise and great company,” said Simmons.
As an added encouragement Hooters will waive the membership fees of the first 50 members to join the Hooters Athletics Club! Thereafter a membership fee of R100 will be payable. “There are limited free membership spaces available as the club is growing fast, so we encourage guests to register as soon as possible if they want to take advantage of this limited offer!” said Simmons.
Members of the public looking to join the Hooters Athletics Club can email firstname.lastname@example.org. Hooters Management staff will also be available on the day to answer any questions.
