ICC First in Africa to Host World Forestry Congress

Durban will play host to yet another important international event as the XIV World Forestry Congress will be held in the city from the 7-11 September 2015. This is the biggest meeting of the world’s forestry sector.

This event takes place every six years under the endorsement of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations. The event is organised by the host country government. The XIV World Forestry Congress brings together the global community to review, analyse important issues and share ways of addressing them.

According to the FAO, the congress brings together people from all countries, regions, sectors, NGO’s, government organisations and many other kinds of people. The FAO hopes that the event provides a platform for young people, professionals and women to have an opportunity to voice their concerns and ideas.

The congress is set to put forward technical and policy approaches to boost the sustainability of the forestry industry and showcase the latest growth and innovations in global forestry, using multimedia platforms to show practical applications and linkages, the FAO says.
