eThekwini Municipality Mayor Zandile Gumede congratulates uMlazi based Max’s Lifestyle owner, Max Mqadi, for being named as one of the best 207 restaurants in the world.
The accolade comes from an international luxury travel and lifestyle magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, reviewer Cherae Robinson.
Robinson wrote in an article titled: “Where in the world to eat” that the uMlazi based tourist attraction was one of the best places to get a braai because of its amazing South African–style grilled meat. She writes that patrons can go on a Friday or Saturday night to also enjoy the local Kwaito music.
Gumede said she was pleased by the strides being made by our local establishments.
“This honour comes after CNN voted Durban as one of 23 cities around the world to savour the best street food in cities around the world in August this year,” she said.
Gumede said the continued recognition would boost our expanding local businesses and increase the City’s international appeal.
“We support local community tourism organisations to drive tourism in townships and rural areas. Popular tourist spots outside the Durban Central Business District such as Phoenix, Inanda, Bothas Hills, uMlazi must be promoted,” Gumede added.
