Mountain bike challenge to take place in Isandlwana

The inaugural Bike & Battle leisure adventure will be hosted at Isandlwana Lodge in the Anglo Zulu Battlefields, KwaZulu-Natal from 17 to 20 September 2015.

Presented by Durban based Detour Trails, the Bike & Battle is designed to give riders and runners a chance to experience the beautiful natural trails of the area while soaking up the rich history that shaped South Africa.

With only 50 participants, the event guarantees a small and intimate feel where the emphasis is on luxury accommodation, quality food and attention to detail. The format follows four days and three nights with trail riding or running a different route to one of the battlefield sites each day, followed by a sumptuous lunch and a talk by a raconteur, all while enjoying either the lush Isandlwana Lodge or ‘glamping’ (glamorous camping) accommodation packages, explained event organizer, Rohan Surridge.

“In a move away from the big MTB stage races, we’ve created something quite special. A real mountain bike and trail running adventure with the advantage of small numbers and luxury accommodation, ensuring a quality over quantity experience,” he added.

Isandlwana Lodge co-owner, Pat Stubbs anticipates a weekend of excitement and adventure. “We are excited about working in partnership with Bike and Battle,” she said. “Isandlwana Lodge has the perfect set-up for a mountain bike challenge.” Non-riders and supporters are encouraged to join in the activities and entertainment, making it an experience for everyone. There will be a night ride and a few other surprises thrown in for good measure.
