The Vodacom Durban July, a prestigious annual event on Durban’s entertainment calendar, promises to be even better this year and inject approximately R1 billion into the KwaZulu-Natal economy.
The City is expecting more than 2 million visitors to Durban, which will see the hotel occupancy rate averaging at 85 percent. Approximately 940 temporary jobs will be created during this period.
In keeping with this year’s theme: ‘Leader of the Pack,’ the City has lined up a variety of events to ensure all our visitors get to experience our warm hospitality, unique culture and amazing talent.
The events include pre-parties such as the Ultimate Pool Party at uShaka Marine World, and after parties such as the Fact Durban Rocks, Mother of all Parties. There will also be a variety of lifestyle events taking place at township hotspots, like Artizen Lounge, Max’s Lifestyle and Eyadini Lounge. These events also promote the booming township tourism.
Residents and motorists are advised to please be aware of the following temporary road closures during the Vodacom Durban July this weekend.
• From midnight on Friday, 1 July 2016, Avondale Road will be closed between DLI Avenue and Mitchell Crescent in order to allow horses and trailers to make their way to the Greyville Racecourse.
• Avondale Road will be made a one way between Mitchell Crescent and DLI Avenue.
• DLI Avenue will only be open to vehicles that have parking access.
Patrons are encouraged to make use of the park and ride system that is in place. They can park at the old Drive-In Site at 280 Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street, and make use of the shuttle service to the racecourse.
All motorists are urged to ensure that they park legally in the area as Metro Police will be on site conducting by-law enforcement operations. The City has allocated 72 officers to control traffic around the racecourse vicinity.
